Dónal Glackin is a professional photographer with over 15 years of experience working across editorial, portraiture, commercial, and cultural projects. His passion for photography began at the age of 15, when he built his own darkroom — a dedication that has shaped a lifelong commitment to the craft.
Dónal has worked with a wide range of clients including Nike, The GPA, Irish Athletics Association, Irish Runner Magazine, the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Irish Traditional Music Archive, Teneo, and Consello.
Alongside his commercial work, he has collaborated with musicians to create album artwork for artists such as, Barry Kerr (Curlews Cry – Folk Album of the Year 2026), Liam O’Connor & Cormac Begley (Into the Loam), Cuas (Cuas), Seán Potts (Number6), Clementine Lovell (Westbound), and Joe Byrne (Ace and Deuce of Piping Volume5).
Combining his passion with Traditional Irish Music and photography he has recently completed a body of work in collaboration with Cairdeas na bhFidiléirí documenting the Donegal fiddle playing tradition. This body of work has already been exhibited in both Ireland and Scotland and is scheduled for a further exhibition in 2026 in the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny, in collaboration with Féile Roise Rua.
For Dónal, photography is more than a profession—it is a vocation. His work has taken him from the Grand Canyon to volcanic eruptions in Iceland and the northern lights of the Arctic Circle, as well as throughout Ireland, where he continues to find inspiration close to home.
